No new Express Entry draw this week. Here’s what to do instead

Hi Reader,

Happy Sunday, it’s Tiffany.

This was a relatively quiet week for Canadian Immigration, mainly because it's a short week.

But I still want to talk about it, because quiet weeks can be dangerous for applicants, especially when the last CEC draw was on April 28, 2026 (CRS: 514).

When nothing huge happens, it is very easy to think, “I’ll wait for the next draw,” or “I’ll look at this again later.” And if your work permit is expiring in 2028, maybe that is not urgent yet.

But if your permit expires in 2026 or 2027, waiting without a plan can quietly take options off the table.

So this week, I want to walk you through what actually happened, what did not happen, and what I would be paying attention to if I were planning PR from inside Canada right now.

30-second summary

  • No new Express Entry draw this week.
  • Manitoba posted MPNP Expression of Interest Draw #271 on May 21, inviting 96 Skilled Worker candidates through strategic recruitment and temporary public policy pathways.
  • PEI posted a May 21 PNP draw with 114 Labour and Express Entry invitations and 0 Business Work Permit Entrepreneur invitations.
  • Join our Webinar next Tuesday if you are have a work permit and are planning to apply for Canada PR.

No IRCC updates

No new Express Entry draw this week

IRCC did not post a new Express Entry draw during the May 16–22 review period.

The last Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw was on April 28, 2026, with a CRS cut-off of 514.

If you are relying on CEC and your work permit expires in 2026 or early 2027, I would not treat this quiet week as a reason to pause your planning. Unless there is a huge CEC draw, the CRS cut-off is going to remain above 510.

The absence of draw is still information. It tells you that your strategy should not depend only on the next invitation round. You should also be checking your CRS score, language results, category-based eligibility, PNP options, employer support, and timing.

PNP Updates

Manitoba MPNP: May 21 Expression of Interest Draw #271

Manitoba posted Expression of Interest Draw #271 on May 21, 2026.

This was under the Skilled Worker Stream and focused on candidates connected to strategic recruitment initiatives and Manitoba’s temporary public policy group.

Manitoba issued 96 Letters of Advice to Apply:

• Employer Services: 31

• Ethnocultural Communities: 9

• Francophone Community: 4

• Regional Communities: 4

• Temporary Public Policy: 48

Of the 96 invitations, 20 went to candidates who declared a valid Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code.

What this means: this was not a general open draw for everyone in Manitoba. It was targeted.

Across Canada, provinces are using nominee programs to meet very specific labour market and community needs. For applicants, this means you cannot just ask, “Did a province issue invitations?” You need to ask, “Was this draw for someone like me?”

If you are in Manitoba and you were part of the temporary public policy group or a strategic recruitment initiative, check your email and follow the official MPNP instructions carefully.

If you are outside Manitoba, do not treat this draw as a sign that you can simply move provinces and expect nomination. PNP strategy has to be built around your actual job, employer, province, status, and timing.

Prince Edward Island PNP: May 21 draw

PEI also posted PNP draw activity on May 21, 2026.

The draw showed:

• Labour and Express Entry invitations: 114

• Business Work Permit Entrepreneur invitations: 0

• Total invitations: 114

What this means: PEI continues to use its PNP to invite Labour and Express Entry candidates, unfortunately, the number alone does not tell you whether you qualify. PEI doesn't not provide additional information on draw details.

What you should do this week

If your work permit expires in the next 12 months, please do not just wait and hope for an ideal EE draw. This is the time to review your status, expiry date, extension options, PR eligibility, documents, employer support, and backup plan.

If your work permit expires in 2026, you may still have room to improve your strategy, but your options are limited. Language results, ECA timing, PNP eligibility, employer support, and document readiness all take time.

If your work permit expires in 2027 or later, this is when planning ahead can make a real difference. You may have time to improve CRS, choose a better pathway, or improve any part of your immigration profile before you run out of time and options.

If you are relying only on Express Entry, check whether that is still realistic. A quiet draw week is a good time to review your CRS, category eligibility, language expiry dates, work experience dates, and PNP possibilities.

I know immigration planning can feel overwhelming when every update seems to create more questions.

That is why I am hosting a webinar on Tuesday:
