Hi Reader, Happy Sunday! Canada gave us something very special this week - Canada's first World Cup Win! That 6-0 World Cup win against Qatar did more than light up the scoreboard. It gave the country one of those rare shared moments where everyone suddenly had something to cheer for together. Did you know that the Captain of Team Canada is not born in Canada? Alphonso Davies immigrated to Canada as a refugee. Born in a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents fled the civil war in Liberia, he and his family relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, when he was five years old. On the immigration side, there was no new Express Entry draw this week. There are some provincial updates, including BC, Alberta, PEI, Manitoba and Quebec. Grab a cup of coffee. PNP UpdatesBritish ColumbiaBC PNP opened registration for the Temporary Rural and Remote Health Support Initiative. This initiative may support up to 250 nominations for eligible workers already working for a BC health authority in rural or remote communities. BC described the initiative as targeting certain workers already working for a health authority in cleaning or security roles in rural or remote communities. Registration is open from June 15 to August 31, 2026. BC also issued 279 Skills Immigration invitations on June 18, 2026. The June 18 invitations were issued through the Innovate, High Economic Impact category: ✅ 130 invitations were issued to candidates with a minimum wage of $62 per hour and $125,000 per year, and a job offer in National Occupational Classification, or NOC, TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3. ✅ 149 invitations were issued through a points based selection, with a minimum score of 136. 📌 What this means: BC is being very selective. High economic impact roles, wages, NOC level, employer support, and regional needs continue to matter. If you are in BC and your plan depends on BC PNP, you need to understand whether your profile fits where BC is actually allocating nominations. AlbertaAlberta issued 56 invitations on June 15 under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, Priority Sectors, Manufacturing pathway. ✅ Invitations: 56 Alberta also launched the AAIP Eligibility Explorer on June 17. This tool allows candidates to answer questions and see which Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, or AAIP, streams may match their situation before starting an Expression of Interest profile. 📌 What this means: Alberta continues to use targeted selection. If you work in one of Alberta’s priority sectors, your profile should be positioned carefully before you submit or update your Worker Expression of Interest. Prince Edward IslandPEI issued 182 Labour and Express Entry invitations on June 18, 2026. PEI continues to prioritize skilled workers in higher demand sectors such as healthcare, trades, manufacturing, and other key industries facing labour shortages. PEI also notes that people working in sales and service may not receive an invitation at this time. 📌 What this means: If you are already working in PEI, your job offer, sector, employer support, and work history matter. PEI is not simply inviting everyone in the pool. ManitobaManitoba posted Expression of Interest Draw #273 on June 18, 2026. This was under the Skilled Worker Stream. Profiles were considered under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway or the Skilled Worker Overseas pathway if they declared that they were directly invited by the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program, or MPNP, under a strategic recruitment initiative. ✅ Total Letters of Advice to Apply issued: 124 The invitations were distributed as follows: ✅ Employer Services: 49 Manitoba also noted that Expressions of Interest from Skilled Worker Stream candidates were only considered if they were directly invited by the MPNP under a strategic recruitment initiative or through the temporary public policy for prospective Provincial Nominee Program candidates. If you submitted an Expression of Interest profile and met the selection criteria but did not receive a Letter of Advice to Apply, Manitoba said this could be because your language test number was missing or invalid, your language test was no longer valid, or your strategic recruitment invitation number was missing or invalid. 📌 What this means: Manitoba’s draw was not a general open invitation for everyone in the pool. It was tied to direct recruitment, community connection, employer services, Francophone community, regional community, or the temporary public policy. If you are in the Manitoba pool, check your Expression of Interest carefully. A missing language test number or invitation number can prevent your profile from being considered. QuebecQuebec made a major announcement this week. The Programme de l’expérience québécoise, known as PEQ, will reopen temporarily from July 2, 2026 to July 2, 2028. The first application intake period begins on July 2, 2026 and ends on October 31, 2026. For my readers in Ontario and BC, this likely does not change your strategy unless you have Quebec education, Quebec work experience, or a genuine plan to settle in Quebec. Also, I do not practise Quebec immigration matters, so I am sharing this as a national immigration update only. If Quebec is your pathway, please speak with a qualified professional who handles Quebec immigration files. 📌 What this means: Do not chase Quebec headlines unless Quebec is genuinely part of your life and your settlement plan. For most of you in Ontario and BC, the bigger question remains your CRS score, your work permit timeline, your job, your NOC, your province, and whether French should be part of your longer term PR strategy. 💡 Professional InsightThe theme this week is targeted selection. Canada is not simply inviting people because they want permanent residence. Provinces are looking at labour market needs, regional needs, sector priorities, language ability, employer support, wage level, and timing. But here is what matters for you right now: You should not panic just because another province held a draw. You should also not sit still if your work permit expires in 2026 or 2027 and your current plan depends only on waiting for Express Entry. The right approach is not to chase every announcement. The right approach is to know which announcements actually apply to your profile. One More Thing: Should You Be Learning French?This week’s updates are also a good reminder that permanent residence planning is not only about waiting for the next draw. For some candidates, French may become an important part of a longer term PR strategy. This does not mean everyone should suddenly start learning French. But if your CRS score is below recent cut-offs, your work permit expires in 2026 or 2027, and you are willing to commit serious time to improving your profile, French may be worth exploring. For Express Entry’s French language proficiency category, IRCC currently requires French test results showing at least NCLC 7 in all four abilities:
