The first weekend of August always feels like Canada is on summer holiday.

The days are still long. Many people are taking time off. The pace feels a little slower.

This is a relatively quiet week with no Express Entry Draws. Provincial programs continued selecting candidates, and the details tell us who provinces are prioritizing right now.

⚡ This Week in Canadian Immigration: 30-second summary

• No new Express Entry draws were posted from July 27 to July 31, 2026.
• Newfoundland and Labrador issued 445 invitations through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program and the Atlantic Immigration Program.
• Manitoba issued 766 Letters of Advice to Apply through MPNP Draw #276.
• British Columbia issued 10 Entrepreneur Immigration invitations under the Base stream.
• Alberta did not hold a new draw this week. Its July 30 program update showed 2,511 regular nomination spaces remaining for 2026.

PNP Updates

Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador issued 445 invitations on July 28:

✅ Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program: 400 invitations
✅ Atlantic Immigration Program: 45 invitations

The province continues using an Expression of Interest process to identify and invite candidates who align with its immigration and labour market priorities.

📌 What this means:

Newfoundland and Labrador remains active, but being in the Expression of Interest pool does not guarantee an invitation.

Your occupation, employer, provincial connection and the immigration stream you are using can all matter.

For Atlantic Immigration Program candidates, having support from a designated employer remains an essential part of the pathway.

Manitoba

Manitoba issued 766 Letters of Advice to Apply through MPNP Draw #276 on July 30.

The draw included:

✅ 74 candidates working in selected occupations, including aviation, aerospace, family medicine and facility operations
✅ 605 candidates working in Manitoba in manufacturing and utilities
✅ 17 candidates selected through Francophone recruitment
✅ 70 candidates selected through strategic recruitment initiatives

Of the 766 invitations, 94 went to candidates who declared a valid Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code.

📌 What this means:

The headline number is large, but this was not a broad invitation round for every Manitoba candidate.

The province focused heavily on people already working locally, especially in manufacturing and utilities. It also continued selecting candidates through French-language and strategic recruitment priorities.

If you are working in Manitoba, your local employment and occupation may matter more than comparing your score with someone in a different sector.

British Columbia

British Columbia issued 10 Entrepreneur Immigration invitations under the Base stream on July 28.

✅ Invitations issued: 10
✅ Minimum score: 117
✅ Stream: Entrepreneur Immigration Base stream

📌 What this means:

This was a business immigration draw. It was not a Skills Immigration draw for workers or international graduates.

The Entrepreneur Immigration Base stream is intended for experienced entrepreneurs who plan to establish or purchase a business and actively manage it in British Columbia.

If you are a worker waiting for a BC PNP Skills Immigration invitation, this draw does not change your position.

Alberta

Alberta did not publish a new AAIP draw during the July 27 to July 31 period.

However, its processing page was updated on July 30.

The province reported:

✅ 2026 regular nomination allocation: 6,403
✅ Nominations issued: 3,892
✅ Regular nomination spaces remaining: 2,511
✅ Additional nominations issued for physicians: 50
✅ Additional nominations issued for Francophone candidates: 12

The physician and Francophone nominations were issued through additional federal nomination spaces and do not count against Alberta’s regular allocation.

📌 What this means:

Alberta still has nomination spaces available, but remaining allocation does not automatically mean that a broad draw is coming.

The update does show continued federal and provincial interest in practice-ready physicians and Francophone immigration.

If you fall within one of these groups, review the actual stream requirements. Do not assume that French ability or a healthcare occupation alone is enough.

💡 Professional Insight

Do not chase a province simply because it issued a large number of invitations.

A provincial pathway only helps when your occupation, employer, location, experience and long-term plans genuinely fit the program.
