Canadian Immigration Updates: PNP Draws + 3 PR Tips

Hi Reader,

Happy Thanksgiving Sunday! Tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving! Unlike our American neighbours who celebrate in November, Canada celebrates on the second Monday of October. Whether you're celebrating with family, friends or simply enjoying the autumn colours, I hope you have a wonderful long weekend!

It was a quieter week for Express Entry, but there were some important provincial and work permit developments.

⚡ This Week in Canadian Immigration (October 5–9)

  • Express Entry: No new federal draws were identified in the results reviewed for October 5–9.
  • Alberta, October 7: Issued 22 invitations under its Express Entry Priority Sectors (Aviation) selection, with a minimum provincial EOI score of 56.
  • Manitoba, October 8: Issued 340 invitations, including 211 for teaching and early childhood education occupations, 46 for healthcare, and 83 through strategic recruitment. Of these, 16 were under the Francophone Community initiative.
  • LMIA update, October 9: New regional unemployment figures took effect. Certain low-wage LMIA applications in metropolitan areas with unemployment rates of 6% or higher will not be processed, subject to exceptions.

3 Tips for Your Canada PR Plans

1. Don't just watch CRS cut-offs.

Different Express Entry draws have different eligibility criteria. Find out which programs and categories you may qualify for instead of comparing your score with every draw.

2. Know your work permit expiry date.

Don't wait until your work permit is about to expire to explore your options. Not all permits can be extended, and simply having an Express Entry profile doesn't give you permission to keep working.

3. Always have a Plan B.

If your CRS score isn't competitive, what can you realistically improve? Better language results? More qualifying Canadian work experience? A provincial pathway?

The important thing is to explore your options while you still have time.

That's what we'll work through together.
