Express Entry is changing. Could your CRS increase?

Hi Reader,

Happy Sunday! I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving week. There’s still time to enjoy the fall colours, so here’s your immigration catch-up before you get on with your Sunday.

⚡ This Week in Canadian Immigration: 30-Second Summary

  • 8,252 Express Entry invitations were issued this week.
  • New CRS rules from November 3: Eligible Canadian work experience or qualifying job offers in listed high-wage occupations may earn points under the new system.
  • Provincial updates: B.C. invited 16 rural/remote health support candidates; PEI issued 163 invitations; Ontario relaunched its REDI regional initiative.
  • IEC deadline: Submit your profile before 9 a.m. Eastern on October 19 to be considered for the final 2026 invitation rounds.

Express Entry News

  • October 13, PNP: 752 invitations | CRS 772
  • October 15, CEC: 2,500 invitations | CRS 519
  • October 16, French-language proficiency: 5,000 invitations | CRS 435

IRCC Updates

The biggest news came on Friday: Express Entry scoring will change on November 3.

Is your occupation on the new high-wage list?

Under the announced rules:

  • At least one year of eligible Canadian work experience in a listed occupation may earn 20, 40 or 70 additional CRS points.
  • A qualifying job offer in a listed occupation may earn 50, 70 or 100 points, without an LMIA requirement for these Express Entry points.

Here’s the detail to watch: your occupation’s median wage determines its classification, not your personal salary.

These two scoring routes are alternatives. IRCC will compare your points for Canadian work experience with your points for a qualifying job offer and award the higher amount, subject to applicable caps.

PEI issued 163 Labour and Express Entry invitations on October 16.

Ontario also relaunched REDI, its regional immigration initiative, which will run through the end of 2027.

If you’ve been watching CEC draws and wondering how to close the gap, I’d start by checking your NOC against the new list. Your score may change, but so may other candidates’ scores. Extra points still won’t guarantee an invitation.
